By India Today Sports Desk: West Indies captain Shai Hope has said that he expected the bowlers to get the job done against Netherlands in their World Cup Qualifiers clash. Netherlands beat West Indies by 22 runs in the Super Over to register their third win in the CWC Qualifiers.
Speaking after the match, Hope said the team let themselves down, while insisting that he expected the bowlers to get the job done. West Indies finished with 8 for 2 in the Super over after conceding 30 runs against the Netherlands.
“We just let ourselves down. I can't see us scoring 375 and losing. Honestly, I thought it was enough. I expected the bowlers to do the job. Just unfortunate we lost. The picture is right in front of us now. We need to do better,” said Hope.
Meanwhile, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards said they couldn’t have player a better game of cricket, adding that Logan van Beek and Teja Nidamanuru batted really well. Nidamanuru scored 111 runs off 76 balls to help Netherlands post 364 for 9 and tie the scores with West Indies.
“Still soaking it in. Can't play a better individual game of cricket. They batted sensationally. We bowled well in patches. We thought we conceded 60 more. We had the belief though. That innings from Teja and van Beek was special,” said Edwards.
He went on to say that Van Beek was in a bit of a trance and was hitting fours and sixes all over. Van Beek hit Jason Holder for three fours and three sixes in the Super Over to help Netherlands post 30 for 0, which is the highest-ever Super Over score in international cricket.
“We pride ourselves on our running. You hit gaps and run hard. Logan was in a bit of a trance. I don't think he was listening to me. He was hitting everything for fours and sixes. This was going to be a massive game for us. To go in with two points is good,” Edwards added.
