Just as trade gurus predicted, the Kartik Aaryan starrer, Satyaprem Ki Katha saw a drop in numbers on its second day at the ticket windows. The film that took 6th place on the list of highest opening day collections of 2023, earned just around Rs 6.25 crore on its first Friday.
The film which began its box office run with an estimated collection of Rs 8.50 crore, saw a drop of an estimated Rs 2.25 crore on Friday, which was a working weekday. The film owes its big opening day collection to the Eid holiday which helped take its 2-day collection to an estimated Rs 14.75 crore nett.
According to reports, if there was no Eid holiday, then the opening day numbers of the film would have been much lower. In fact, trade experts predict that the film would have earned around the same Rs 6 crore range if it opened on a regular working day.
All eyes are now on the box office to see how well the film performs in its first weekend. It will have to match its first-day numbers, if not hit double digits to maintain its hold over the box office in the week ahead.
'SKK' has the chance to grow as there are no new Hindi releases in the upcoming weekends. However, it remains to be seen if the Hollywood films like 'Mission: Impossible 7', 'Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie' eat into its profits.
The Gujarat and Saurashtra sectors will be crucial for the film's success keeping in mind its regional pull. But despite the local flavour the film deals with mature themes which may not work for a conservative audience.
