By India Today Sports Desk: Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has said that Suryakumar Yadav’s confidence rubs off on guys who are batting with him. Suryakumar scored his maiden IPL century to guide MI to a crucial 27-run win over defending champions Gujarat Titans in Mumbai.
Speaking after the game, Rohit said it was an interesting game, while heaping praise on his bowling unit. MI defended 219 runs to register their seventh win of the season.
“It was an interesting game. Especially from our point of view, it was good to win the game. That was from our perspective it was quite pleasing, to defend the total this way, not the way it ended though. Till the 15th over we bowled well, but in the end the dew came in. It was a great effort from the bowlers,” said Rohit.

He went on to hail Suryakumar’s knock, saying his confidence rubs off on guys who are batting with him. Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 103 off 49 balls, smashing 11 fours and six maximums.
“At the start of the tournament, we thought about whether we needed to go for a left and right combination, but Surya came and said no, I want to go in. That's the kind of confidence he brings up and rubs off on the guys who are batting with him,” Rohit added.
The MI skipper said Suryakumar comes in every game really fresh and doesn not sit back and does not slack off. Suryakumar’s knock helped MI beat GT, and move up to third position in the IPL 2023 points table.
“He comes really fresh in every game, it's good for the Indian team too. It's sometimes easy to sit back and be proud of it, but he doesn't do that he just comes fresh in every game,” said Rohit.
Following their win over GT, MI will turn their focus towards Lucknow Super Giants, with the two sides set to clash at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 16.
