By India Today Sports Desk: England vice-captain Ollie Pope has said that pacer Ollie Robinson can celebrate wickets in the way that he wants. England are set to face Australia in the second Test of the five-match Ashes 2023 series at Lord’s on June 28.

Speaking ahead of the Lord’s Test, Pope said sometimes in a series like the Ashes, emotions can take over on the pitch. Robinson has been facing criticism for his expletive send-off to Australia opener Usman Khawaja, after dismissing him for 141 in the first innings of the first Ashes 2023 Test at Edgbaston.

“I think Ollie is the kind of guy who gets in the battle. And sometimes I think in a big series like this, emotions almost take over while you're on the pitch. But he's a top guy, and I think in an Ashes series, these things are really brought to light,” said Pope.
He went on to say that Robinson’s send-off for Khawaja was nothing personal, and it’s just the way that he plays cricket. Robinson played down the send-off, saying it was a reaction that came from the heat of the moment and that he spoke to Khawaja and made peace later on.
“In the heat of the moment, obviously he was pumped up to get that wicket and it's nothing personal in the way that he's gone about it. That's just the way he plays his cricket,” Pope added.
Pope said Robinson can celebrate his wickets the way he wants, insisting that hopefully the pacer can get the ball do all the talking in the second Ashes 2023 Test. Robinson has picked up 71 wickets in 17 Tests at an average of 21.15 for England.
“I don't know, I've not asked him. But if he can get on a good run, hopefully he can celebrate in the way he wants to celebrate. But he's just going to go about his business in the way he does. He's a high-quality bowler, so hopefully he can let the ball do all the talking,” said Pope.
Following their loss against Australia at Edgbaston, England will be looking to bounce back in the five-game series, when the two side clash at Lord’s on June 28.
