By India Today Sports Desk: Netherlands won a thriller in their final group stage game of the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. The Dutch team while chasing 375 runs vs West Indies, first tied the game, and then obliterated West Indies in the Super Over, courtesy of Logan van Beek.
Van Beek, who had almost won Netherlands the game in the regulation overs by scoring a rapid 28 off 14 in the final overs of the match, took matter into his own hands and smashed Jason Holder for 30 runs in the Super Over – the highest ever runs hit in a Super Over of an international game. Van Beek then returned with the ball to scalp two wickets and help Netherlands win the match by 22 runs.
The fans were left ecstatic with the performance of the player and said that nobody would ever repeat that performance in the next 1000 years. Van Beek spoke after the match and said that the more he batted the more he believed that Netherlands could achieve the mammoth target set by the Windies side.
We could seriously play cricket for 1000 years and there's still literally zero chance anyone is ever putting in a better Super Over showing than that.#WIvNED https://t.co/9gEIs0k3JN — Bertus de Jong (@BdJcricket) June 26, 2023
West Indies already dug themselves a hole by losing to Zimbabwe in the previous game and now have been left in a precarious position. They have entered the Super Six but it will be very difficult for them to make it to the playoffs since they have only four points from the group stage game.
Former West Indies player Carlos Braithwaite, who was handing over the player of the match award looked shocked and disappointed with the loss, which allowed for some great memes on the incident.
