By India Today Sports Desk: Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma chose to take the positives out of their loss against Punjab Kings on Saturday, 22 April. Playing at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai failed to chase down a mammoth target of 215 runs, despite heroic efforts from Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green. Mumbai got close, but a thunderous final over from Arshdeep Singh saw them fall short by 13 runs.
Rohit spoke after the match and said that he was a little disappointed, but will keep his heads high as the team fought well in the game.
"A little disappointed. We made some errors on the field which can happen but we won't look too much into that," Sharma said after the match to the broadcaster.
IPL 2023: Points Table
The batter said that Mumbai had lost 3 and won 3 and he was happy with the progression of the side at the moment.
"Just keep our heads high. We played six games now, won 3 lost 3. Even stevens at the moment. Lot of time remaining in the tournament so we can't look down. We need to stay in the game and in the tournament and keep doing the right things. Yes we didn't come out on top today. Like I said, we made some errors but it is something for us to look back at it," Sharma further added.
Mumbai are placed at the 7th position in the league table with 6 points from 6 matches. With the table tightly packed this season, they are just 2 points adrift of top-placed Rajasthan Royals, who have 8 points to their name. Arshdeep Singh was the main reason behind's MI's failure, as the bowler broke 2 separate sets of stumps in the final over, with his searing yorkers. The Indian captain lauded the bowler and said that it was not Mumbai's game to win.
"Quite happy with the way these 2 guys batted today. It was important for us to keep us in the game and they kept us in the game till the end. Gotta give credit to Arshdeep the way he bowled in the end. it was not our day today," Sharma concluded.
